  • no, it's not sinful. but if you spend too much time eating it can lead to neglect of your spritual life. God loves you as you are and wants to talk with you every day. finding your identity in Him can lead to greater contentment and less need to eat…
  • george, you are describing the geneva 1990 agreement, which i allude to above. our patriarchs decided in principle that we all (eastern and oriental orthodox) agree, but some of the individual churches have been slower to ratify the agreement than o…
  • ok, i'll try to give a short answer, as the long answer takes about a year to read!  ;) until the year 451, the churches were all together. everyone was catholic and orthodox and very very evangelical (spreading the good news about Jesus). there wer…
  • in the coptic church we fast (food and water) for 9 hours before communion and in this time (or the evening before if all the fasting time is spent asleep) we may attend the evening service (vespers) if there is one, or pray the evening hours from t…
  • in our church (coptic), we keep to our own gender for the kiss of peace, but then, after communion we greet some people we know from the opposite gender with a handshake (or occasionally a kiss on the cheek if they are like your uncle/aunt). this di…
  • you will habibi, please pray for us too in our weakness
  • What matters is to pray. I know my priest's wife prays while washing the dishes and while cooking for all her guests and the church. her kitchen window faces roughly north. the food, and her guests, are all mightily blessed. it is good for people i…
  • i like father peter's post, i want to add that fasting is 9 hours before communion, not 8.

  • Dear hezekiel, my last post was continuing my thread; not specifically answering yours, but i will comment on yours here. there are 2 points in reply: 1. i am no expert on protestant theology in eritrea, but have spent many years discussing theolog…
  • hi all, please tell everyone you can before may 24th about this day of prayer. as theophilus said, this has affected protestants more than the orthodox and catholics, however we are all brothers in Christ and it is very important we support each oth…

  • hi, mikeforjesus yes i also noticed dumdum mentioned protestants and atheists in the same breath. thanks for sticking up for them!  :) i also think to say it 'is bad' to have protestants is a bit extreme, although i know some protestants give the ot…
